Repairs, maintains and overhauls gasoline and diesel motor equipment, which may include trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, power shovels, etc.; Repairs and maintains auxiliary equipment; Repairs or replaces motor pumps, fuel pumps, generators, carburetors, shock absorbers; Repairs ignition systems, transmissions, brake systems, clutches and front and rear axles; Adjusts connecting rods and bearings; Adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels; Changes and repairs tires and tubes; Lubricates vehicles, changes oil and oil filters; Tunes engine and sets the timing; Cares for shop tools and equipment; Attaches and removes snow plow blades and other auxiliary equipment; May operate machine shop equipment, including lathes, grinders and other metal working machines and make welding repairs; Operates a school bus, station wagon or other passenger vehicle used as a school bus on a regular schedule or in driving students on special trips; Checks school bus to assure safe operation and use before each run; Maintains order and discipline among passengers; Performs a variety of related activities as required.
Thorough knowledge of the practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions for automotive equipment maintenance and repair; good knowledge of passenger vehicle operation; skill in the use of the tools of the trade; demonstrated skill in operating a passenger vehicle used as a school bus; ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral instructions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of experience as a skilled automotive worker.
